7. Why will May Day bring climax of the play?
8. Describe bottomw the weaver.
9. What are some of the unpleasant aspects of love revealed in Act i?
I’m in the show right now :]
1. Lysander says that Demetrius shouldn’t marry hermia because Demetrius had previously pledged his love to Helena
2. Hermia is the more fair skinned, and she is shorter. Helena is darker skinned, and a bit taller.
3. Well, this one confused me a bit.. Hermia’s resistance would be her going against her father and marrying Lysander. Lysander’s scheme would be the plan to run into the woods with Hermia to get married. Helena’s betrayal would be telling Demetrius about Hermia and Lysander running away. So I would think that it would say that even though they are all very close to the ones they are deceiving, they still are willing to disobey them for their own gain, and for love.
4. “Therefore is winged cupid painted blind” is a quote from Helena. She thinks love is sort of an unfair trap [in my opinion] Because she loves Demetrius, and he used to love her. But now he loves Hermia, so Helena is alone.
5. Using the craftsmen and having them rehearsing for a play within a play, tells people that they are not professional [in the play within a play]. So they know not to take it seriously, and that they can laugh at the mechnicals [the mechanicals are the ones putting on the play]. It makes the play more dynamic, and gives it a more bold comedic plot rather than the subtle comedy of the whole mixed up love part.
6. The play they are doing is called “Pyramus and Thisbe” The play is about two lovers who both end up dead [The ending sort of like romeo and juliet. One kills themself because they think the other is dead, but they aren't. So they both end up killing themselves.] It’s a story about love, which is relevant to the story. It shows a tragic ending, which is different from the actual shows ending.
7. Okay im sorry, i just don’t know this one at all…
8. Bottom the weaver is one of the most comical characters in the show. He is a sort of ‘diva’ and wants to play every part in “Pyramus and Thisbe”. He thinks very highly of himself, and overacts in their play within a play. He believes he is a good actor, even though he is overly cheesy. He enjoys stealing the spotlight, and making a big event out of everything. He ends up getting the head of a donkey later in the show, and Titania falls in love with him [because of a magic flower.. not for real] And he plays Pyramus in their play of “Pyramus and Thisbe” even though he would rather play every character
9. An unpleasant aspect of love would be shown by Helena. It shows how even though you can love someone, it doesn’t always mean you can be loved back. And sometimes you can’t stop loving them. So you are stuck in unrequited love [or however you spell it...] And also, it shows how someone can love you at one point, then leave you for someone else. You have no control over other’s love, and you barely have control over your own.
xx I’m sorry I couldn’t answer every question, but I hope I helped!
Good luck!
