Wall Carpeting
Wall-to-wall carpeting?
My family just bought a home with wall-to-wall carpeting, and some of the nails (that presumably hold the carpeting down) are sticking out of the carpet. Now I know the carpeting was steam-cleaned before we moved in, but I don’t know whether that would affect anything. So here are my questions:
1. Would the carpet cleaning have affected it at all?
2. Is it safe to just hammer in the nails?
I would not think carpet cleaning pulled nails loose from tac strip. This is a wooden strip with sharp barbs sticking up out of it that grip the carpet and hold it in place when stretched.
Some tac strip has fastening nails already started in the strip.
Maybe some of those didn’t get driven down during installation.
Just hammer in the nails. Sometimes in doorways-installers will drive several nails through the carpet to hold it tight until they install a metal door strip, maybe they forgot to pull a few of these up.
Anyway just hammer them down, make sure the pile of the carpet doesn’t get under the head of the nail, otherwise you will notice it.
