My g/f is allergic to cats I need some advice?
My girlfriend is allergic to cats but I would very much like to own a cat as I have had them all my life till now. So…
I need some help on two different fronts.
1. I have heard that there are breeds of cat that people are not allergic to because they have a different kind of fur structure or even no fur at all. I know some of the breeds such as Sphinx but does anyone have any experience of this?
and
2. I have also heard that there are some special anti allergy medications that can be taken for a few days/weeks and then the allergy will go away permanently. I don’t want her to have to take medication permanently as this is not a good idea but if there is something that is short term treatment but permanent solution then that would be great.
Any help for a cat lover who really would like to own another cat.
by the way, exchanging my girlfriend for a cat is not an option

I am allergic to most cats but I have a cat. I heard from my college roommate that her cousin breeds Bengals. They are about 16th asian leopard to get interesting coat patterns, they feel like they have rabbit fur and that they are generally Hypoallergenic.
I usually get a stuffy nose when I walk into a house that has even one cat, but I walked into this breeders house (she had 18 cats at that time) and I did not even have a single sniffle. I got one of her older kittens (Teddy, a brown and black marbled bengal who was almost a year old) I love him to death and he is so incredibly smart and trainable (even though he is the most clumsy cat I have ever seen). I have trained him not to scratch or bite and he even plays fetch. I would have her come to a breeder with you to see if she is allergic to the breed of cat you are thinking about. Even though Bengals are hypoallergenic, there are some people who are still allergic to even hypoallergenic cats.
