questions about gold item?

i have a miniature sphinx that my great grandparents brought back with them from egypt in the early 1900′s and it rly looks like gold but one of my concerns is there seems to be somesort of black patina on parts of it. how can i test if this is rly gold?

They sell test kits, around $15.
Are you wondering if it is solid gold? A simple magnet test may disprove that.
Jewelers in Asian shops have a simple test, they hold the item in front of a torch for a few seconds.
If it discolors its not pure gold.
