Sphinx Luxor
Length of stay in Egypt?
If I’m planning a trip to Egypt and want to see all of the main attractions – pyramids, sphinx, Alexandria, Luxor, Thebes… how much time should I realistically plan? I’d like to be based in Cairo, but I’m not sure if the sites further away (like Luxor) can be done in 1 day and back… Ideally I’d like to spend a total of 4 days there – would that be enough? Tour packages I’ve seen online show minimum 8 days but include a lot of stuff I am not interested in.
If anyone has been before and has some tips, please let me know. Thanks!
I would say a minimum of two weeks. There is so much to see, even though it may not be in the list of “to dos”, you want to allow yourself flexibility to go to bazaars, Old Cairo, and the Nile. I didn’t go to Luxor but I went to Dahab (Sinai) and The Black and White Desert. (Which I recommend going to) Dahab was a three day affair with scubdiving, ATVing, swimming in the Red Sea, etc. Also the Black and White Desert one day and one night sleeping under the stars is amazing. So plan in overnight excisions other than Luxor. But again, I’d stay for a minimum of two weeks.
