Cleaning the milk of a shag carpet?

I have a soft plush carpet 5X7 and my sister spilled milk on her and she cleaned it with water and soap, but after a few days .. and, and it smells horrible! It's pretty hairy so I dont know how to not only clean but make sure your past and the smell has gone too!

If you have a wet / dry shopvac use that as a extactor … Get a bucket of warm water and soap. I use a little laundry soap (2 tablespoons) and add acouple tablespoons of baking soda .. To remove the smell! * If you have a laundry pretreated give the area a spray and let sit for 5-10 min. (Test for colorfastness first) Saturate the area with warm soapy water and work into the carpet with a small brush or rag … Extract with shopvac wetdry …. *** Remember to remove the filter paper before extraction! Repeat if needed … Rinse in a bucket of clean water and repeat …. ***** If you do not have a shopvac which are not expensive you can get one for about $ 50 and use it throughout the house! I used mine to: Unclog a toilet vacuum mattress / Dustbunnies Upholstery Spot Remover / Car Cleaning cobwebs inside the kitchen suck up spills clean up vomit flooded basement suck .. (I know GROSS) Uncover bath / Clean sink drain garage, workshop, etc … Good luck
