that video is the artist I am trying to describe?

so I've been trying to find the artist that I would describe as neo-soul, as he played this song for the BET Quiet Storm / Storm / after hours at night segment. all I remember is that the singer has an afro, or maybe a little hair, even as Maxwell. the configuration of the video was in a loft, a lot of warm tones in the vid, but what made me most was a wall of logs and ridiculous girl the video (the lover) was in a white shag carpet in the middle of the floor with headphones listening to records. I thought this was the song went very well, but I never caught the artist's name or that I did but I can not remember. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?
