Interior Decorating: Creating an African Theme
Indoor decorating is really fun because you get to play around with a lot of different themes. You can choose to create your art using color, glass, silver and so on. But today we are going to discuss a particular kind of theme, the African one.
The first thing you will want to do is decide whether or not you want to go for the complete theme or simply borrow some items so as to depict just a particular aspect of Africa that you want. After that, you will then need to go out and get the items you need. This can be done online.
Items needed
The items that I will give you are assuming you just want small decorations and nothing major like furniture or anything like that. You can use things like paintings, sculptures, carvings, baskets and if you like chess, you can get wonderful chess boards made from malachite.
Paintings
Women in Africa play a very big role in the community; which is why you will find quite a few African paintings focused on women carrying their babies or doing some kind of work. It is rare to find paintings of men.
Sculptures
Unfortunately African sculptures do not get the credit they deserve like that of other places. But that shouldn’t deter you from getting one. Most of the sculpting is very professional and beautifully done and you can get sculptures of almost anything.
Carvings
Wood is something that is readily available in Africa. Maybe that is why people spend a lot of time carving things like masks, human figures and other things that just show off the creativity of the natives.
Baskets
Given the nature of the rural communities, baskets are still used very often in the daily lives of people. It seems like there is a basket for every purpose. This makes it very easy to get a basket to suit your needs, even just for decorative purposes.
Malachite ornaments
Malachite is a very beautiful stone; the color green just gives it great luster. If you were to see the kinds of ornaments made from this stone, your reaction would be nothing less of sensational. The particular item you should try and get is a chess board. They are very well finished and everything is done by hand.
Implementation
Making the above items work will mainly depend on you and how you want to use them. If you want, you can set aside a part of your room and call it your African get away or something like that. Let your imagination guide you.
