please be in depth i need this for a school project
Rugs and carpets are a form of decorative art; as such, they are as
representative of a culture as its painting or architecture. People have
made them and used them in their living quarters for thousands of years.
The earliest rugs were crudely woven; they were tacked to walls to provide
insulation from winds and sun and laid on the bare ground for the sake of
warmth and comfort.

Here are found remnants of fabrics, proving the existence of spinning of natural fibres woven on looms or weaving boards. Their designs bear a striking resemblance with those found on the Turkish carpets even today. Originally yearn was spun by a spindle and a distaff. At a later stage the spindle was coupled with a whirl, acting as a flywheel. It helped to maintain its rotation and consequently to twist the fibres. The fabric was woven on primitive looms, either vertical or horizontal.
