Persian Rug Mats

Natural Materials Make the Best Rugs
The quality of a rug is determined by the materials used in making it. The materials are the foundation of the rug which influences its durability, appearance and texture. The price of the rug is also determined mainly by the material; rugs that are composed of natural materials are more expensive than synthetic rugs.
There are two groups of rug materials used in rug making, the natural and the synthetic materials. The natural products include the widely used cotton and wool plus other materials such as sisal, sea grass, jute and bamboo. Synthetic fibers for rugs such as rayon, nylon, viscose and acrylic are also available but are less durable and low-priced than those made with natural fibers.
Wool is a popular choice of material for high-quality rugs. The material comes not only from sheep, but goats and llamas also provide good wool for rug-making. Its durability and flexibility provide the rug with long-lasting endurance to wear and tear. Rug makers prefer wool because it absorbs dyes easily and traps them in to keep the design from fading easily. It is also resistant to fire, does not stain readily and is water resistant. People with allergies to dust mites prefer wool carpets because they naturally ward off these insects.
Another natural material used is cotton because it is durable. It is usually used with wool to make a cotton-wool blend rug that costs lesser than a pure wool mat. Cotton though wears easily than wool, thus a blend of both is preferable than a pure cotton rug to make the product last.
Silk is popularly used in Persian rugs and other high-quality rugs of Oriental origin. Use of this natural fiber with other material adds a shiny glow on the rug. Pure silk rugs are expensive even when it is blended with other synthetic or natural fiber.
Sisal, jute, sea grass and bamboo fibers are all natural plant fibers. They are usually blended with other materials to make good quality, durable rugs that come at a lower price than silk, wool and cotton rugs.
The quality of natural-fiber rugs is superior compared to synthetic rugs. The strength and flexibility of the materials in these rugs make them great for long-term use and should be the top choice for people who are looking for the perfect rug.
