how to divide room with curtain?

I am trying to make an unused dinning room in to a child’s playroom/ nursery. Our Kitchen and dinning room are one huge room and since our table sits in the kitchen area of the room the dinning area is free for toys I need to hang some sort of curtain system that doesn’t look tacky. Price is not really an issue although I am not looking to spend $1,000.00 Two problems… Walls that need to connect the rod are 180″ apart from each other and the ceiling is tiles (can’t drill into those) Any ideas. Iam not sure how much weight those tiles can handle i was thinking as a support to put large “s” hooks in the brackets of the ceiling and hang the rod off of those not to mention screw the sides into the wall. Again not sure how sturdy those brackets for tiles are. Help!!

I had a similar problem a few years back. But I had access to thick wall stainless steel tubing. What I did was cut the tubing to fit within 1/4 inch from wall-to-wall. then mounted the tubing using 4-inch corner (or “L”) brackets. Using tie-wraps I secured the tubing to the brackets. I mounted the brackets so that they stick out and make like a little “mini shelf” for the rod to rest on.

For my project I used 1/2 inch 316 stainless steel tubing with a .065 wall thickness. My room was 12 feet, since yours is 15 feet, and if you want to use this idea, you may want to consider using .083 wall thickness (less sag in the middle). The tubing spanned the room without any middle support from the ceiling. Since you have children, you may have to drop a support wire down from the ceiling since they will probably end up pulling on it at some point.

I chose the stainless steel because of it’s rigidity and 1/2-inch diameter. It only comes in 20 foot lengths, unless you pay extra for them to cut it. This type of tubing is used in industrial steam applications but it makes a great material for a long curtain rod.
