What type of sweet potato grows dark purple/black leaves and vines?
I would love to grow a sweet potato house plant – I saw one in a houseplant book and it was a dark purple/black vine. But it didn’t say where to get one or what the name of the vareity of sweet potato was.
What type of sweet potato should I look for a the supermarket if I want to grow this?
The sweet potato vines you’re looking for are ornamental vines and you should be able to find them at most any nursery or garden center, especially this time of year. Here’s a link which tells about them:

One variety with perhaps the “blackest” foliage is aptly called ‘Blackie. Also, some of the vines have the classic spade shaped leaf, like this:

I usually use a combination of types (including the lime green), but they’re all lovely and very easy to take care of. Once again, just check at a local garden center and you’ll surely find some. =)
