GOLD, PLATINUM AND MULTI-PLATINUM?

According to the Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll, published by Rolling Stone, Elvis Presley “has received more gold, platinum and multi-platinum certifications than any other single artist in the history of recorded music.”
Years after his untimely death in 1977 his music and movies continue to sell. What is it about Elvis Presley and his music that enables him to achieve that status?

He was the most popular entertainer to ever live. While it is true he has the most Gold Records, he really should have more than he has. First of all all his sales prior to 1958 do not count, also all of his Gold Records are under the old system of selling 1 million, the new standard is only 500,000, and the RIAA doesn’t back track, so he really should have somewhere between 150 & 200 total Gold, Platinum & Multi Platinum Records.

The other thing is Total sales. He is listed as selling 1 Billion, same as the Beatles, but that total is misleading. Again, no sales prior to 1958 are counted, his peak year was 1956, also singles are no longer counted. Cash Box & Billboard estimate his total record sales including singles is somewhere between 2 and 2.4 billion. That’s twice as many as the Beatles.

Although foreign sales do not count, as far as the RIAA is concerned, Elvis is the number 1 selling artist in China, and in Europe. in the last few years he had 2 number 1 songs in England.

I ♥ MJ, I know you are a fan of Micheal Jackson, but what has he done no one can beat. He is not the top sales leader, that’s Elvis. He doesn’t have the most Gold, Platinum & Multi Platinum Records that’s also Elvis, even Janet Jackson has more than Micheal. He doesn’t have the most #1′s that’s also Elvis. He doesn’t have the most top 10′s or top 40′s again that’s Elvis. The only thing maybe you can give to Michel Jackson is top selling Album (Thriller) & I say maybe only because I have read that the Eagles their greatest hits 1971 – 1975 has outsold Thriller, but I have not been able to verify that.
