Walking Burgundy – An Active French Vacation
Beaune has several museums, and one of them is naturally a Wine Museum. The Fine Arts Museum offers you Flemish and Dutch paintings from the 16th and 17th century, The Beaune Hospice: Gothic architecture and finally you can discover the world of the blackcurrant at “Le Cassissium” or be taken through centuries of traditional and family-run mustard production at The Fallot Mustard Mill.
The Burgundy area is famous worldwide for wine but the local cuisine is worth writing home about as well. Burgundy has a range of culinary specialties like goat’s cheese, Charolais beef, Bresse chicken and Burgundy snails. And just imagine: you have decided on a walking holiday, so you don’t have to worry about calories – You can spoil your taste buds and walk them off. Great!
Burgundy is a perfect place for an active French vacation. Walking Burgundy means walking among vineyards and rolling hills. Pass through quaint villages in the French landscape and take time at a local cafe – to let it all sink in.
Every Saturday morning you can visit the local outdoor market. Be aware that the city gets very crowed on market days. However a visit is worth the hassle – especially if you are a food lover. You will find a wide variety of goods, including food, at this market.
You can get to Beaune by air, train or car.
The nearest airport is Dijon-Bourgogne. The airport is located 6 km south-east of Dijon, and currently served by flights from 15 French cities and a number of European cities.
By train Beaune can be reached in 1hour and 20 minutes from Lyon, 2 hours from Valence, 3 hours from Marseille and 4 hours from Toulon. Beaune is linked with Paris by TGV high speed train.
By car you take the A-6 from Paris, and the drive is approximately 2 and a half hour.
