North Minneapolis Politics: Bottineau Line (light rail), the Dog and Pony Shows No need!
On Thursday, January 28, a meeting was held in north Minneapolis to discuss Bottineau Line (light rail) and how they affect the community north of Minneapolis.
In the continuation of the back Room offers, sidebars, without further thought some community members wonder will it be another "walk through" economic opportunity that seems to keep missing Black and Black business in North Minneapolis? No establishment of 40/40/40 Community Benefits Agreement (CBA), it seems that projects is just another ride on the backs of the children of the community accompanied by any real benefit to the train that goes through the "hood."
Minnesota Public Radio (Radio-Man), is suing the Metropolitan Council in a planned light rail project that would run trains from the office of the St. Paul station. For "technical reasons", if the light rail runs anywhere near Broadway and Penn, KMOJ-FM may sue for the same reasons … no.
It's simple as Black & White, literally.
Since the passage of the stimulus bill more than 3.3 million Americans have lost their jobs. In January 2010 over 20,000 have lost their gainful employment.
In 2009, the leaders of North Minneapolis promised at least 1,000 jobs for the community.
In the fall of 2009, a deafening silence fell from north Minneapolis "self-appointed leaders." What happened to the millions dollars in stimulus money the Obama administration sent cleverly disguised as something that never reach businesses, human service agencies and individuals who need work now?
The presentation on Thursday night was another good example of "chatter" to see if politicians can handle local "community."
"What, no new job?" – Says Sam years 51, who drives a taxi in Minneapolis for a local taxi company and lives in north Minneapolis, "It's the same group of politicians always tell the community jobs and new projects are coming "- and nothing the story unfolds. It's like being super-glued to the edge of your seat with all the uncertainty of production big screen and no delivery of a plot. It's funny, sometimes we fall over time. "
Sam's feelings on the issue of jobs north of Minneapolis reflects the sentiments of many who are tired of "sensationalism" and announcements of possible opportunities for the most part forever never reach the average resident of North Minneapolis. The beneficiaries are non-profit agencies and their employees the task of studying the process " how. "
Meeting on Thursday night, Minnesota State Representative Bobby Jo Champion (58B) told the captive audience (the voters afterof posed a good question about work in north Minneapolis along the proposed light rail), "We're not here to talk about jobs!"
The United States has donated more than $ 600 million to Haiti – an economic disaster area and infrastructure, at what point the Black community in north Minneapolis to obtain any another consideration – also an economic disaster area and infrastructure.
At what point will be about jobs, economic stimulus? When Representative addressed the committee Champion Minnesota Department of transpiration lack of minority contractors – or jobs? Champion, which sits on the Transportation Policy and Transit States and the Division of Supervision, which meets each Wednesday at 1:00 pm in Conference Room 5 State Office Building, has been largely IBNN claims, moved to the real needs of transit options and transit to their constituents 58B – to include the performance by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Now we have before us a proposed light rail line whose raison d'etre is more political than practical. It's time for a reality check.
Using LRT billion economic development projects as much sense as the use of professional sports stadiums as economic development – a billion dollars would build 20,000 new homes on the north side or rehabilitation of 30,000. But it is quite absurd to spend a billion dollars to build a future bike path Penn Avenue.
Light rail or light rail to the giant displace thousands residents of North Minneapolis, while "running" through north Minneapolis is presented as a great and wonderful project. But who will responsible to ensure there is an agreement on Community Benefits of jobs, economic stimulus and compliance by prime contractors, city and state to assign tasks to minority contractors in an effort to hire local residents in 55,405 and 55,411.
State Senator (58) Linda Higgins and State Representative (58B) Bobby Jo Champion both say that the LTR is a great addition to provide transportation to the northern suburbs making it easier for residents Minneapolis North to reach jobs in Maple Grove and other northwest suburbs.
What is the problem with creating capacity for business in north Minneapolis for "business" may hire residents so they can "choose" if you want to travel the northwest suburbs of work?
The community "Dog and Pony Show" was corrupt and outdated, offering a spectacle of excelsior proportions.
The light rail line Bottineau will be a "convenience" for people and outline plans. For the most part, this will be a "walk" north of Minneapolis in all forms imaginable.
Again, to what extent the ethnic minority community to get any consideration of their local politicians when it comes to creating wealth and independence, in the form of jobs?
The meetings are great – coffee, biscuits, water, but the community deserves full disclosure Application of the Agreement for Community Benefits.
